Solenoid Valves are used to control the flow of liquid and gaseous media. They are used in many industries, including refrigeration and air conditioning systems, heating systems, water tanks, dishwashers, milking machines and industrial cleaning equipment. They are also used in medical devices, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, automotive engineering, domestic appliances, and many more.

A solenoid valve consists of two main components: a coil and a valve. The coil comes alive by generating a magnetic field when current is applied to it. When a magnetic field is produced, it attracts the core or plunger, which opens and closes the valve.

The coil consists of an insulated copper wire that is tightly wrapped around an iron core. The insulating material is designed to block the flow of any fluid that passes through the coil. The coil also has an actuator on it that moves along with the coil to actuate the valve.

Another important component of a solenoid is the spring that keeps the plunger or core in place. The spring is designed to allow the plunger to move, whereas it doesn't allow it to come off. This allows the spring to be easily replaced if it wears out.

Several types of Solenoid Valves are available depending on the application. Some of them are pilot operated, others use pressure across the valve to open or close it. Other valves are three-way or multi-way. Some of these valves also have a switching function that allows them to work in either direction.

Some valves are able to handle fluids with very high pressures and flow rates. These valves are called internally piloted valves.

These valves use a pressure dierence in the membrane to lift the medium from the inlet port to the outlet port. When the valve is normally closed, the membrane is held in place by the pressure of the inlet port and the spring above it. When the valve is energized, the pilot orifice opens and this causes the pressure above the membrane to decrease.

This creates a pressure difference on both sides of the membrane and causes the diaphragm to lift. When the medium is released, the diaphragm drops back to its original position.

One type of valve is the Normally Closed pilot-operated solenoid valve. This type of valve has a pin that holds passage D open, and it is impossible for the water to fill cavity C to the point that the pin is forced closed. When the pin is pushed into a closed position by supplying an electric current, it blocks passage D, which allows the water to accumulate in cavity C and pushes open diaphragm B.

Emerson, an engineering, and software company opened an integrated manufacturing facility in Chennai, India, at Mahindra World City, in February 2022. This facility will manufacture fluid control and pneumatics products, such as cylinders, pneumatic valves, Solenoid Valves, position monitoring, and air preparation units for TESCOM, AVENTICS, ASCO, and TopWorx.
