Polybutadiene is used in the manufacturing of tires and elastomers. Butadiene is a simple conjugated diene hydrocarbon produced from oil-derived feedstocks. It is added to plastics in order to increase their pliability and toughness. However, it is not an environmentally friendly product. It can also be manufactured by free radical polymerization.

Butadiene has several applications, including as an impact modifier for ABS resin and polystyrene. It is also used to make golf balls, and is a component in the rubber used in treads and side walls of cars. It can also be used as a coating for electronics.

Polybutadiene is produced from a variety of 1,3-butadiene monomers. These monomers are then added to a polymer chain intermediate to form a new polymer unit. A free radical near the end of the growing polymer chain bonds to a carbon number on the #1 carbon of the previous butadiene unit. This allows the sections of the polymer chain to align and stay straight.

High-cis butadienes are used for improving abrasion resistance and low-temperature properties. These are used in the production of passenger cars and small trucks. Moreover, high-cis butadiene blends are used to increase the durability of tires by improving resistance to tread groove cracking, heat failures and blowouts. These blends also increase the flexibility of the rubber for extension with large amounts of oil.

Several applications of Polybutadiene Market include automobile tire manufacturing, industrial rubber manufacturing, and sealants.

It is also used in a number of rubber-based products, such as tyres, rubber-toughened resins, clutches, engine bearings, and conveyor belts. It is used in the manufacture of surface sealants and propellants.

Butadiene is used as an impact modifier in the manufacture of polystyrene and ABS resin. It is also used in the manufacture of high impact polystyrene (HIPS), which is used in a wide range of applications. It has properties comparable to ABS, making it popular in the consumer product manufacturing industry.

A novel Ecoposit plastic metallization process was created by DuPont in February 2022, for improving the plating capabilities of complex parts. This product attacks areas having Polybutadiene using oxidization and then forms caverns, enabling the adhesion by anchoring of plated metals mechanically.
