Sarcopenia Treatment; Training and Physical Exercise Is Key to Counteract Sarcopenia
A primary Sarcopenia Treatment is exercise. Researchers have identified resistance training as the specific form of exercise that is most beneficial to individuals with sarcopenia. At present, resistance exercise, protein supplementation, and vitamin D have been established as the basic treatment of sarcopenia. Recent clinical trials on sarcopenia therapies such as physical exercise, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical interventions have revealed that exercise is the only effective strategy shown to alleviate sarcopenia.
Sarcopenia refers to a loss of muscle mass specifically related to aging. It's normal to lose some muscle mass as people age. Sarcopenia has been defined as an age-related, involuntary loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength. Although aging is the main cause of sarcopenia, some other factors contribute to the loss of muscle mass. Getting little or no physical activity on a regular basis puts people at an increased risk of developing sarcopenia as they age. The main treatment path for sarcopenia is physical exercise.
Thus, with the growing geriatric population across the U.S., the risk of developing sarcopenia and the Demand for Sarcopenia Treatment Market is also increasing with a rapid pace. According to the Population Reference Bureau, the number of Americans ages 65 and older is projected to nearly double from 52 million in 2018 to 95 million by 2060, and 65-and-older age group’s share of the total population will rise from 16 percent to 23 percent. Although some sarcopenia are a natural consequence of aging, others are preventable.
Sarcopenia therapy may also include nutrition and dietary supplements, as they can play an important role in the treatment of sarcopenia. Some of the commonly used supplements to treat sarcopenia are omega 3 acid, proteins, creatine, amino acids, calcium carbonate, and vitamin D and B12. As such there is no approved Sarcopenia Treatment available, however, nutrition and dietary supplements can play an important role in its treatment.
